Uganda Explore – 12 Days Rich Wildlife and Cultural Insights

For those press with time constrain and would like to sample the many unique attractions in Uganda, we advice to take this elaborate and detailed package. It is also not age specific since most activities are done not on foot, hence suitable to children and elderly alike. All major wildlife destinations in Uganda are incorporated in this itinerary - Murchison Falls, Queen Elizabeth park and Bwindi Impenetrable. At some point there are walking opportunities to cater for those who would like to do Gorilla tracking. It is tailored as a wildlife safari-cum-cultural safari.

 

Day 1: Arrival – Kampala

 

Arrive in Kampala to be met and dropped in your hotel of choice. Depending on time of arrival, if early, there are several activities to indulge in within Kampala on city tour. Places of interest are Kasubi Tombs, Wamala tombs, Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, Uganda Wildlife Education Centre and Museums rich in Uganda heritage. Overnight in a town.

 

Day 2: Kampala - Murchison Falls National Park.

 

Early after breakfast, depart and drive to Murchison Falls National Park. En route, you will be in a position to visit the only Rhino sanctuary with black and white rhino in Uganda, Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola. The sanctuary was established to restore Rhino populations in Uganda.

 

Arrive in the afternoon to enjoy the eye catching view of the Nile and its magnificent waterfall. The river width is 50m, but reduces tremendously and squeezes through a 6m canyon and forms a 40m drop down with roar of thunder. Depending on time of day, it creates a colorful rainbow resulting from plume of spray. The sight of this, Africa's biggest and longest, river maeandering its way through the park plunging through narrow gaps, stretches imagination. Overnight is at Red Chilli Rest Camp.

Day 3: Murchison Falls National Park.

 

After breakfast, is an early morning game drive through vast plains with opportunities to see major games; Lions, Giraffe, Hartebeest, Buffalo and Elephant among others. The area is Borassus Palm Forest and grassland savannah that stretches all the way to Lake Albert where the Nile heads north to the Sudan.

 

Africa rhino

In the afternoon is a boat ride on the Victoria Nile, heading upstream, to the base of the waterfalls. Animals to see are Crocodiles, Hippos plus numerous games coming down to have a drink. Overnight is at Red Chilli Rest Camp.

 

Day 5: Kibale

 

For those interested in tracking Chimps, this is the day. Walk deep into the forest to track the Chimpanzee. Other animals to spot are L’Hoests, Red colobus, Blues, red tailed and Gary checked mangabey among others. Later return to relax.

Gorilla life

Afternoon is a guided walk through Bigodi Swamp.  Bogodi is managed by Kibale Association for Rural and Environmental established to promote socio-economic of communities of the area. It is also a bird paradise and deems with over 137 registered bird species. Dinner and over night is at Rwenzori View Guest House.

 

Day 6: Kibale - Semliki Valley Wildlife Reserve

 

Have breakfast and depart for Semliki Wildlife Reserve for elaborate activities. Semliki valley, often referred to as “Garden of Eden” because of its serene vista of the river meandering downwards. Later have picnic at a hot spring with therapeutic benefits. Arrive in the afternoon. Other activity of the day is cultural exchange with pigmy people – remnant of the bush-men at Ituri Rainforest.

Overnight is at Semliki Safari Lodge.****

 

Day 7: Semliki Valley

 

After breakfast depart for Chimpanzee tracking in the Gallery Forest of the Mugiri River for the rest of the morning. Afternoon is a boat ride on Lake Albert in search of Shoebill and other major attractions. Overnight is at Semliki Safari Lodge****

 

Day 8: Semliki - Queen Elizabeth National park

 

Morning is an extended game drive for more game. Later heads for Queen Elizabeth National Park to arrive in the afternoon for extended game drive in this beautiful and rich park. Over night is at Institute of Ecology Cottages or upgrade to Mweya Lodge.

 

Day 9: Elizabeth National park

 

Start the day with a game drive in the park. Queen Elizabeth National Park is covered in many habitats; savannah plains,

tropical forest, riverines, swamps, lakes and volcanic craters hosting varied wildlife spectacles. It is also a place you can see majestic view of Rwenzoris in the back-drop. Wildlife found here are lion, leopard, buffalo, Uganda Kob etc.

 

Afternoon is spent on a two hour boat ride on the Kazinga Channel into Lake Edward for bird watching. Overnight at Institute of Ecology Cottages or upgrade to Mweya Lodge****

 

Day 10: Queen Elizabeth - Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

 

After breakfast, is a game drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. Relax in the afternoon or opt for an optional nature walk at an extra cost on Munyaga Waterfall in search of Grey Cheeked Mangabey Blue Monkeys, birdlife among others. Overnight at Buhoma Homestead/Community Bandas or upgrade to Gorilla Resort.****

 

 

Day 11: Bwindi - Lake Mburo National Park.

 

Bwindi is home to Gorilla and other major primates. We leave Gorilla tracking and this time round take a more relaxed approached and leave straight for Lake Mburo National Park via Kabale, a lake invested area often referred to as Switzerland of Uganda because the green scenery and lush farming.

 

Arriving in the afternoon. Later go on a boat in the lake or wildlife viewing. Lake Mburo is within the extension of the Tanzanian Plains and has main wildlife species like Zebra, Impala, Eland etc. Bird lovers are at home, around the lake and bush lands. Overnight is at Mantana Tented Camp/ UWA’s Tents or upgrade to Mihingo Lodge.****

 

Day 12: Lake MburoKampala

 

After breakfast leave for Kampala to arrive late afternoon. End of trip.

-If you want to upgrade accommodation is $150 extra per night where applicable
