Culture-Link Travel was formed to look into numerous loopholes that are denying field staff and host communities a great deal of revenue visitors bring in on their holidays. Field staff and the host communities often get little or nothing from the revenue accrued from tourism as unscrupulous operators take it all - it is a pity especially for the host communities who are the custodians of the resources being utilized. The underlying factor is to foster direct and reasonable benefits to crew members and the host communities for their contribution in tourism. We try to devise ways of making holidays more enjoyable and memorable by offering practical and enchanting experiences to visitors. Equally important, we emphasize the preservation of delicate & fragile ecosystems and cultures as we endeavor into the promotion of a sustainable tourism. · Make holidays more enjoyable and memorable with enchanting experiences through participatory and interactive programmes - a fair deal for the visitor . · Have equitable resource use for all parties involved; field/crew members, benefiting equitably the local communities hosting natural resources or cultural attractions by involving them directly - even distribution of revenue. · Designs programs that involve and benefit the local communities directly - the way forward in community involvement in tourism. · Initiate tourism related activities which benefit directly the local communities e.g. cultural related tourism which the locals themselves organize - the ecotourism approach. · Involve our clients in helping the local host communities through suggestions or donations to community projects - a poverty eradication strategy. · Ensure that clients get maximum utilization of all the available resources; visit to parks and local settings to sample the true picture of Africa . Nature and cultures that are low impact, interactive and sustainable. · Have controlled and reasonable number of clients to different destinations to minimize destruction of natural resources and erosion of indigenous cultures - a sustainable tourism. · Maintain high standard in conservation of our resources by training ourselves and educating our clients about the need of safeguarding our environment & resources - environmental friendliness. · Preserve susceptible cultures by utilizing locally products as an incentive for preservation of such resources - a cultural oriented tourism. · At time we accompany our visitors on the trip so that we offer our expertise and close contact and attention. On that note we keep our programmes limited to allow for well thought and run trips – a personalized service How we started The idea of developing an equitable travel that caters to community and persons actively involved in the actual ground work in tourism and other related ventures came up as a result of unfairness in distribution of revenue to all the concerned parties. We are conservationists by profession with a greater affinity for nature. Some of us were born and raised up in these natural areas. We have therefore enjoyed the beauty of amazing creatures of the wild, from way back in our childhood as we were brought up looking after our fathers' goats and cattle on the vast Masai Mara plains. We had a deeper urge for nature, and in line to that one of us pursued a degree course in Natural Resources with ambitions of preserving and helping local communities utilize the natural resources sustainably. He carried out a research for his thesis on how best we can conserve and preserve our environment. He found out that no matter how much we try to conserve, we cannot succeed in conserving even a segment of any resource if the needs of those hosting the resource are not catered for, and more so if we have little knowledge on the non-monetary aspects of these resources. We have guided treks and education safaris in East Africa for quite some time and we have realised that the people who actually do the hard work and those who host the attractions are actually the one making the business boom, but their needs are rarely prioritised if not forgotten. The host communities who are the custodians of the very resources utilised have no access and their inputs rarely matter - a sad situation, because outsiders come and 'loot' them! This has aggravated the conservation of threatened natural resources and cultures because the custodians who have a big role are given a raw deal and thus making them see no reason not to do away with the resources altogether. Armed with this in our mind and the urge from the quotas of clients wanting to have their money trickling down to the deserving people, we thought it wise to have an equitable travel concern that caters for the field staff and the host community while not forgetting the interest of the clients in providing a Safari that has direct links to preservation of our valuable resources. We believe that your support will help us realize this goal.
